About The Event

If you are unable to attend our summer seminars at the scheduled times, we would like to provide you with this option of viewing a recording of the seminar at your convenience. Recordings will be available from July 20-August 1st via a private YouTube video, and will then be removed. You will also receive access to the seminar packets if applicable.

In order to access the private YouTube video, you need to have a YouTube account and be signed into it when trying to view the video. If you have multiple YouTube accounts, you must be signed into the account which the video has been shared with. Please make sure this is the address you use when registering for this event on the next page, so that we can invite you to view the video. On July 20, YouTube will send you an email with the link to access the video. You will have 2 weeks to view the seminars at your convenience before access is removed.

*If you register after July 19, you will be added manually, which could take extra time. We will work hard to get you the link within 2-3 days of your purchase. This link will come in an email from YouTube.

We hope you can take advantage of this special opportunity to see the great content from our Summer Seminars!

Below is a description of the events:

MONDAY: Just Keep Singing!  with Dr. Niké St. Clair, Diane Geller, Kelly Adams, and Arie Lugo

Are you dreaming of the day when you can be in the same room as your choir students again? Us too! But we’ve got you covered in the meantime. Join KASC for a seminar on how to “just keeping singing” and continue to provide fun, meaningful musicianship training over Zoom. Presenters will share winning strategies to engage students online using the Kodály method and more!

TUESDAY: The Sounds of Silence: Solutions for Instrumental Engagement Online with Shelly Suminski Mahpar

"Okay, everybody on mute? One…two…three…and!”

Silence - a sound we have all become more familiar with lately. So many teachers are still looking for the best strategies to run a meaningful band, orchestra, choir, or music course in the age of the video conference classroom. Without access to synchronous music-making over the internet, what are some ways we can engage our instrumental students? We’ll look at the structure of different possible online class experiences, including asynchronous classes, synchronous teaching models and ensemble engagement.

WEDNESDAY: Music Theory With A Twist with Dr. Kathy Hickey

It takes the right strategies to sequence and scaffold a semester course on music fundamentals, whether you’re teaching beginners or advanced students. And now, in a surprise twist, you might need to do it online! In this seminar you will learn how to apply the Kodály sequence for teaching online music theory to your high school AP Music Theory course or your college Fundamentals course. Dr. Kathy Hickey has lots of materials to share!

THURSDAY: Listen Louder Than You Sing with Dr. Kathy Hickey

How can we teach students to “listen loudly” over the internet? Join KASC for a seminar on applying listening elements from the Kodály Approach on Zoom. Get students using their fingers to identify different themes in the music, using softly-sung solfa to derive the melody, and identifying meter/chords/etc in a variety of music.
